چکیده

The production of streptomycin is limited mostly to a few strains of Streptomyces griseus (Schatz, Bugie, and Waksman, 1944; Waksman, Reilly, and Johnstone, 1946; Carvajal, 1946a and b) and to Streptomyces bikiniensis (Johnstone and Waksman, 1948). Trussell, Fulton, and Grant (1947) examined a strain of Streptomyces which appeared to produce both streptomycin and streptothricin. Although this organism resembled Streptomyces lavendulae, it possessed morphological and biochemical characteristics that differentiated it from the described species. More recently, Benedict et al. (1950) reported that a strain of Streptomyces griseocarneus nov. sp. produced a closely related member of the streptomycin series, hydroxystreptomycin, which differed from streptomycin only in having a hydroxymethyl group instead of a methyl group in the streptose portion of the molecule. From a strain of Streptomyces similar to, but not identical with, S. griseocarneus, Grundy et al. (1950) isolated and characterized an antibiotic identical with hydroxystreptomycin. The purpose of this paper is (1) to provide a detailed morphological and physiological description of S. griseocarneus as stipulated by Benedict et al. (1950), and (2) to report studies on the production of hydroxystreptomycin by this organism in laboratory and pilot-plant scale fermentation and to consider other factors encountered in this work.

جداسازی و تأیید مولکولی سریع استرپتومایسس های تولید کننده آنتی بیوتیک استرپتومایسین

Introduction: Streptomyces species are mycelial, aerobic gram-positive bacteria that are isolated from soil and produce a diverse range of antibiotics. Streptomyces griseus produces the antibiotic, streptomycin and forms spores even in a liquid culture. The gene cluster for the production of Streptomycin antibiotic contains strR gene that encodes StrR, a pathway-specific regulator. Then, this p...

Immobilization of Streptomyces gulbargensis in Polyurethane Foam: A Promising Technique for L-asparaginase Production on

In the present study, Streptomyces gulbargensis and its mutant form, S.gulbargensis mu24, immobilized on polyurethane foam were investigated for the production of L-asparaginase using groundnut cake extract as medium. The medium with an initial pH of 8.5 was inoculated with free and immobilized cells separately and then subjected to fermentation by incubation at 40oC and shaking at 200 rev/min....

Study of L-Asparaginase Production by Streptomyces noursei MTCC 10469, Isolated from Marine Sponge Callyspongia diffusa

L-asparaginase is an anti-neoplastic agent used in the chemotherapy of lymphoblastic leukaemia. The present work deals with production of extra-cellular Lasparaginase from marine actinomycetes, using submerged fermentation. Marine actinomycete Streptomyces associated with marine spongeCallyspongia diffusa was isolated using specific ISP medium. Sponge-associated Streptomyces was character...

Optimization of Culture Conditions for Keratinase Production in Streptomyces Sp. JRS19 for Chick Feather Wastes Degradation

The aim of this study was to find the optimal conditions of a newly isolated Streptomyces strain JRS 19. Screening for keratinase producing bacteria and their keratinase production were investigated. The keratinase produced by the isolate was purified by chromatographic techniques and the optimum pH maintained was 7.0 and maintained at different temperatures Viz., 20ºC, 25ºC, 30ºC, 35ºC and 40º...

STREPTOMYCES FRADIAE, A POTENT PRODUCER OF CHOLESTEROL OXIDASE

Thirteen species of Streptomycetes, Arthrobacters and Mycobacterium were studied for the determination of a potential cholesterol oxidase producer. Only Streptomyces fradiae and Streptomyces rishiriences were found to be capable of producing this enzyme. Streptomyces fradiae was selected for the production of cholesterol oxidase and cultured in different media to find optimum media and con...
